What is Estate Administration?

Estate Administration is the process of dealing with your estate when you are no longer around. It can be a complicated process and you should consider who you choose to be your Executor very carefully. Your Executor have the responsibility of applying for the official approval for Estate Administration, drawing in all assets, paying any liabilities and then distributing your assets in accordance with your wishes.

An Executor is someone who has been appointed under your Will to deal with the Estate Administration. An Executor is entitled to apply for Grant of Probate – a legal document issued by the Probate Registry that grants authority to administer estate of deceased person. If you die without a Will, your close relative would be an Administrator who will be entitled to apply for Grant of Letters of Administration.

The legal process of getting official approval for Estate Administration – obtaining either Grant of Probate or Grant of Letters of Administration – is known as “Probate”. The grief associated with the loss of a loved one can be overwhelming and having to deal with the Probate process, complex forms and the loss of a loved one can often be too much.
